1. What are mineral rights and royalties, and how do I know if I own them?

Mineral rights give you ownership of the oil, gas, and resources beneath a piece of land. Royalties are the payments you receive when those resources are produced. The easiest way to find out if you own minerals is to check your deed — and if you're unsure, we're happy to help you figure it out for free.

2. What is the process for selling my mineral rights, and how long does it take?

It's simpler than most people expect. We review your interest, make you a fair offer, and handle all the paperwork. Most closings are completed in 2–4 weeks from start to finish.

3. Do I have to sell all of my mineral rights, or can I sell just a portion?

Not at all. Mineral interests can often be divided, so you can sell a portion now and retain the rest. We'll walk you through your options and help you find what works best for your situation.

4. Will selling my mineral rights affect my surface land or my current oil and gas lease?

No — your surface land is completely separate and is not affected by a mineral sale. If you have an active lease, it simply transfers to the new owner. Any royalties owed to you through closing remain yours.

5. How is the sale of mineral rights taxed?

It's generally treated as a capital gain. If you've owned the interest for more than a year, long-term capital gains rates typically apply. Every situation is different though — we always recommend checking with your CPA before closing.

6. What is the difference between a mineral interest, royalty interest, and overriding royalty interest (ORRI)?

A mineral interest is full ownership of the subsurface estate. A royalty interest is a non-participating share of production revenue with no cost burden. An ORRI is carved out of the working interest and expires when the underlying lease terminates. Each has different value implications when it comes to selling.

7. How do you determine the multiple you're willing to pay for a producing royalty?

We evaluate current production, operator quality, remaining reserve life, commodity prices, and basin activity to arrive at a fair market multiple. We're transparent about how we get there and happy to walk you through our methodology.

8. What happens to my interest if I don't sell and my lease expires?

Your minerals revert to you unencumbered once the lease term ends and any applicable savings clauses lapse. You'd then have the option to re-lease, sell, or hold. We're happy to talk through what makes the most sense given your specific situation.

9. Can you work with interests held in a trust, LLC, or estate?

Yes — we regularly work with trustees, executors, and entity managers. We coordinate with your legal and financial team to make sure the transaction is structured correctly and closes cleanly.
